Great Dining Picks in Downtown Covington

Have you noticed Downtown Covington’s explosive growth in the last few years? The area has morphed into a great dining scene. Within a few blocks of the Square, you can find a variety of great food, drinks, and entertainment. Since it can be difficult to choose, we’ve summarized four of our favorite local dinner and after-hour picks.

Mystic Grill

With Downtown Covington, aka Mystic Falls, being a popular destination for vampire stalkers, this is rated as one of the best restaurants in town. The restaurant is replicated on the inside from the Vampire Diaries so you can come and feel connected to the show. And if you are a TVD fan, there are loads of signed menus and cast memorabilia to add to the atmosphere. With southern fare on the menu, you can opt for items such as sweet potato shrimp fritters, fried dill pickles appetizer, Shrimp and Grits, Sweet Tea Brined Fried Chicken, Derby pecan pie, and red velvet cake. While the inside has two stories of beautiful brick and stone for a great dining experience, there is also seating on the rooftop that overlooks the historic Square.

Irish Bred Pub

The Irish Bred Pub offers great food, friendly service, and an amazing selection of beer on tap! The sizable portions will really fill you up. The menu has many Irish favorites such as fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, Shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and Reuben sandwiches. There are also many not-so traditional Irish fares such as the blue cheese chips and Reuben eggrolls. For those of you who want American standards, they have great hand cut onion rings, salads, burgers, and steaks. After you’re done eating, make your way upstairs to The Listening Room for nightly entertainment. And if you come on Sundays, there is a Brunch menu.

RL’s Off the Square

This New Orleans inspired restaurant has selections such as fried green tomatoes, gumbo, crab cakes, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, surf and turf, and Crème Brule. Although the atmosphere is simple, the restaurant has been consistently serving Cajun cuisine for years and is frequented by locals. Their generous portions hit the spot!

Amici Italian Café

Serving up fresh ingredients and fun, Amici offers casual Italian dining. They serve pizza, wings, pasta and more. The portions are huge. The restaurant is a local chain started in Madison in 1993, and they’ve grown to seven locations. The one downtown is just off the Square. They have outdoor seating and a bar that make this a great place to meet with friends.
