If you want a taste of home, you must dine at Elea J’s Southern Table at 6265 Hwy 278 NE in Covington. Eleanor uses family recipes and the dishes are made from scratch. The menu has breakfast and lunch items that offer great, southern, comfort food.
For breakfast, there are favorites like shrimp and grits, eggs Benedict, and chicken biscuits.
For lunch, try the chicken fried chicken, smothered pork chops, or a veggie plate with sides like black eyed peas, collard greens, and rice & gravy. Start with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes – fabulous!
The waitress told me that I couldn’t go wrong with anything on the menu and I think she is right. She also recommended that I look at the blackboard for the specials of the day. On it I saw meatloaf and macaroni and cheese, along with a list of homemade desserts.
I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and collards. The meatloaf had a great consistency and was a nice, juicy, thick piece, topped with gravy. The collards were savory, and the mashed potatoes were mixed with butter and creamy goodness. Of course, I had to have dessert. The coconut custard was amazing!
It’s a special place I’ve come to when I taste homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy. That’s the taste of home! Everything is homemade.
